Includes standardized physical performances assessments such as Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB;balance, gait speed, and chair stand), Timed Up and Go (TUG), 6-minute walk test, and handgrip strength to evaluate functional mobility and muscle strength. Maximal handgrip strength was measured using a JAMAR hydraulic dynamometer, with participants seated and the elbow flexed at 90 degrees. Three maximal grip attempts were performed per hand in alternating order, with ≥30 seconds of rest between trials. The highest value of six attempts was used for analysis. The 6-minute walk test was used too assess functional exercise capacity. Participants walked at a fast pace along a hallway course marked by two cones placed 30 m apart. Total walking distance (meters) and heart rate were recorded. Finally, Timed up and Go was performed using a chair and a walking course. Participants were instructed to stand up from a seated position, walk 3 meters, turn around, return to the chair and sit down as quickly and safely as possible. The time required to complete the task was recorded in seconds.

MetC (Metabolically compromised - intervention): Community-dwelling older adults with impaired metabolic health. This population was assessed at the Leiden University Medical Center in Leiden, the Netherlands.
