Fasting EDTA plasma samples were analysed to determine glucose and insulinconcentrations. Fasted serum samples were used to determine 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations. These measurements were used to assess glucose homeostasis and vitamin D status.

REF (Reference Group); Community-dwelling healthy older adults with good metabolic health and mobility and who are physically active; reference population for comparison with compromised groups. This population was assessed at the Leiden University Medical Center in Leiden, the Netherlands.
